Take Action, Kentucky

When Kentucky’s general assembly resumes on January 4, 2022, educators and their allies, as well as students and their protectors, must band together to fight back on the attacks on teaching and educators’ ability to #TeachTruth in their classrooms. Kentucky Students Deserve The Truth! Here are some ways you can participate:

You can do this every day between now and when the bill has passed both chambers. History tells us that if enough of us call, pressure could prevent the bill from even leaving committee. Make sure your messages to go ALL lawmakers, because they need to understand that their vote may not affect their district that much, but it most certainly can hurt districts like Jefferson and Fayette County.

You may also use the links at Save Our Schools KY website to reach ALL lawmakers’ email addresses in just 3 clicks.

Use these sample letters we’ve written or write your own. Send it to editors of all of the papers you are aware of, locally, statewide, even nationally! All Eyes On Kentucky! Also, see: How to Submit an Op-Ed

You can help boost the influence of those actions by sharing, liking, retweeting, and reposting #TeachTruth content any time, day or night. Change your profile picture to show up in solidarity! Share memes and access legislators’ handles using our Social Media Toolkit or Download social media images from Zinn Project.

Visit our online fundraiser website and pre-order your yard sign to be delivered anywhere in Kentucky for just $25. Alternatively, you can make a donation of $50 or more to our campaign and we will deliver a yard sign to you and also make one available for someone who requests a FREE one.

In addition to the above items, we have other suggestions below. If you could use some help implementing any of these ideas, please let us know.

#7 – Plan an Action or Protest in Your Community
Host a town hall, schedule a protest, organize a post-card writing event. Contact us at moderator@allhistorymatters.com for suggestions or step-by-step guidance, and to add your action to our website and social media pages.
#8: Visit a Historic Site, Take a Photo, Share to #TeachTruth
No event in your area? You can still participate on your own or with a small group of friends or family. Find a historic site (history is everywhere!). Take a photo with one of our signs or make your own. Post to social media with #TeachTruth
#9: Pledge to Teach the Truth (or support those who do)
Sign the pledge to resist efforts by lawmakers across the country to pass legislation that would require teachers to lie to students about the role of racism, sexism, heterosexism, and oppression throughout U.S. history. Sign Our Letter of Support
